Blues in Schools is a unique educational project that aims to give children of all ages the opportunity to learn lifelong skills. We equip them and their families with the fundamental ability, knowledge and confidence to mak informed choices about what they consume. The result is a lasting and positive impact both on children's health and their economic well being.
We work specifically with children who have additional educational needs. From behavioural, social and emotional difficulties to autism and Down's syndrome. Many of the children we work with have had a very tough start in life. The Blues in Schools programme is designed to engage these children with the learning process whilst enabling them to gain new life skills.
What we do:
We provide chef led classes for children to prepare, cook and eat a two course meal. Following our healthy eating curriculum, each class is themed and linked into main stream subjects. Our chefs are trained to provide a happy and positive environment where teamwork is encouraged.
The result:
children develop personally and socially, armed with practical skillsto cope with the real world . In addition to this, parents and carers are encouraged to eat more healthily on a budget. We supply them with a kit of constructive tips and guidelines.
"Activities, such as cooking with a trained cook, provide outstanding opportunities for pupils to learn important skills together with supporting their personal development and wellbeing." Gibbs Green School Ofsted Report 2006
